Meghan has lived with chronic pain since she was 16 years old. When she was 36, she was diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury after a boating accident. She has also been diagnosed with numerous autoimmune disorders which are the source of her chronic pain.
She holds an ECE Diploma, a BA majoring in Child Studies, BEd majoring in Primary/Junior/Special Education and an Honours Bachelor of Social Work.
She has attended many chronic pain management and brain injury workshops and programs. It was in a program that she realized there is not a lot of literature out there on the child’s prospective on adult illnesses.
Meghan loves to incorporate social stories into discussions that she has with children. Since 2017 she has been unable to work in the traditional workforce and since has focused her energy into the mind-body connection and is starting to enjoy therapeutic writing and art. In 2019, she started mentoring people who have sustained traumatic brain injuries and chronic illnesses.
Meghan is currently the Co-Chair of the People with Lived Experience Advisory Committee in Thunder Bay. She volunteers with Girl Guides of Canada, NorWest Community Health Centre and Hospice NorthWest. She is a strong advocate for people who have disabilities and chronic health concerns.
Meghan continues to enjoy living in Northern Ontario while frequently traveling to her family’s cottage, outside the small village of Burk’s Falls. In her spare time, you can find her knitting, sewing, meditating, swimming, participating in yoga or having tea with her friends.
Meghan lives with her fluffy friendly cat Minx and her two fish as well as numerous plants that keep her happy. She gets her inspiration for writing children’s books from her medical professionals, her nieces and nephews, friends as well as her parents who are her number one cheerleader.
